Framed - 30×30 cm

This work comes from the series Small Things. It began with a drawing of a soy sauce fish. When I learnt about the decision to discontinue the production of these miniature bottles due to their adverse environmental impact, I couldn't help but feel nostalgic for all the meals I had shared with family and friends that had been accompanied by these tiny plastic fish. This sense of nostalgia inspired me to revisit the assorted collection of small objects that I had gathered over the years.

Each work was created within a specific set of guidelines -

1. The selected objects had to have been a part of my life for over five years

2. They had to have distinct sentimental value and be things that I would find difficult to ever part with

3. They had to be small enough to fit within the palm of my hand

These things are all small, and many of them were very cheap when they were purchased, yet their sentimental value has become immeasurable over the years.

This body of work invites viewers to contemplate the significance of their own collections of small things. Objects like $2 charms, sauce bottles, and inexpensive plastic toys may at times seem inconsequential, and potentially disposable. However, these objects have the potential to hold immense worth as they evoke significant personal memories and emotions.
